Meet the Dream Team - John

This month we are asking all the members of our fabulous Frangipani SUP Dream Team some cheeky questions and we are sharing the answers with you. Meet John!

What is your name and what do you love most about SUP?

Hi I’m John. I love being outside - it’s great to explore by SUP, both solo and with the wife and friends.

What are your favourite uses for a SUP board and why? Surfing, exploring, racing, beer table, sunbathing?

Love the exploration, I’ve taken the inflatable SUP in the car on many holidays and at the end of last year I’ve was introduced to SUP racing, which I’m super excited about.

As a member of the Frangipani SUP Dream Team, what role do you play in helping others on their SUP journey, how much of a kick do you get out of it and why?

I did my BSUPA instructor course in 2020 and it was one of my favourite achievements of the year, that and getting married! 😉 I’m hoping I’ll be able to introduce lots of people to paddle boarding and the very friendly Frangipani gang. I love seeing people starting the day super nervous but finishing up standing and paddling around the lake full of confidence, and of course taking the occasional ‘splash of commitment!’

What is your funniest Frangipani SUP moment - of course mentioning no names in your answer?!

I can’t think of any specifics but step back turn practise is always great to watch as someone usually ends up in the drink 😁

If no one was watching, what you be eating like a beast right now?

Dominos mighty meaty pizza.

What are your SUP ambitions for 2021 and beyond?

To continue with my coaching hours and be super confident as an Instructor, that and my first race event which will hopefully the Battle of the Thames. I’m keen to purchase a new carbon board for it, and once I’m more familiar with the scene I’ll be signing up for some more competitive races and endurance events, Covid permitting obviously.
